03 Sep '10 - Kendal Calling 2010

Well, it’s been a mad few weeks since I last blogged. Been crazy busy, but it’s been fun. I’ll carry on where I left off – Kendal Calling festival – which feels like it was months ago!

Like everything that seems to happen in my fledgling photography career, this came around at the very last minute. Up until the week before the festival, I was due to shoot Y Not festival down in Derbyshire, but through poor PR communication that fell through, leaving me at a potentially frustrating loose end. more »

29 Jul '10 - White Light Parade shoot #2

I’ve been very keen to do another shoot with White Light Parade ever since I first worked with them back in April – They are one of the most successful band around these parts, and i seemed to get on with them all really well. I’d also heard their new material, and it seemed like the sort of thing I wanted to get involved with. So when they asked me back for a second shoot, I jumped at the chance.

27 Jul '10 - Radio Aire Party in the Park 2010

This was the closest thing to a proper festival I’d yet had the pleasure of shooting since covering last years Bingley Music Live. Granted, I covered Beat Herder a few weeks back, but in no way did that feel like work.

At first glance I would turn my nose up at an event like Party in the Park – I’d normally write it off as a showcase of manufactured pop drivel mimed over backing tracks. However, attending such an event did have a few advantages. more »

08 Jul '10 - The Beat-Herder Festival 2010

For those who aren’t familiar with Beat-Herder, it’s a bit weird. Not in a bad way, not at all. Weird in an extremely good way. Sat in the beautiful Ribble Valley, this odd little festival sits a-top a hill, around a small woodland. The picturesque scenery is awash with colourful flags, bizarre signage and percliar floating shapes, dancing to the constant beat of dub step, reggae, and whatever else suits. more »

19 Jun '10 - Green Day @ LCCC, Manchester

This was one of those “nothing to lose” gigs – I’d had a few in the past. I assumed it was too high profile for a photographer of my experience, but I applied anyway. I mean, Green Day are massive, aren’t they? And they’re not just a flash-in-the-pan. They’ve been massive for a long time. I’d have been foolish not to apply for it. The last time I saw them, they doused the drum kit with petrol and set a match to it. The signs were there that this was gonna be a good gig!

11 Jun '10 - Supergrass @ Manchester Academy

This was definitely one of the gigs for 2010 that I’d earmarked as a ‘must-shoot’ – One of Englands most likeable, consistent, and underated bands were calling it a day after 17 years of good times, and doing one final tour. As soon as it was announced I was emailing mags, promoters, PR companies, Tour managers, anyone I could to get in. I put it down to the law of sod that I didn’t actually get any kind of reply til 2pm the day before the gig!

06 Jun '10 - The Kooks @ O2 Academy, Leeds

Ah, t’was good to be back at the Academy. I’d not shot there since *cough* Scouting For Girls *cough* a month ago, and it was good to be back on familiar ground. It was also good to be shooting a straight-down-the-line run-of-the-mill doesn’t-really-do-much guitar-based indie-pop band like The Kooks – an easy gig to shoot, expected to be quite well lit, and the only listed gig for them in the UK in 2010. Winner. ish..
