First gig back at the Academy for over a month, and what better way to ease myself back in than with some funky soul on a sunday evening?

I was keen to cover this gig as I’d originally planned to shoot Aloe Blacc when he performed at The Faversham as part of this years Live at Leeds, but due to various f*ck ups it didn’t happen, so on that occasion I ended up photographing Jon Fratelli at The Well instead. That was probably my single motivating factor for wanting to shoot this gig.

Unfortunately the gig didn’t turn out as great as I’d hoped due to fairly crap lighting. Aloe Blacc through himself around quite a bit, but frustratingly this mainly happened when the lights were at their dimmest. When the lights were up there were a few opportunities to get shots of him singing, but that was about it. Pretty dull in hindsight, but I’ve shot worse.
