I finally got round to shooting my first show at the O2 Victoria Warehouse, as CHVRCHES returned to Manchester for two nights as part of their Love Is Dead tour.
I was genuinely excited about the prospect of shooting a 'new' venue in Manchester (I say 'new' - Victoria Warehouse is nearly 100 years old, and been restored as a music venue for 7 years, but it was new to me). I was particularly excited as all the photos I'd seen from the venue so far implied that it was a great venue to shoot - the stage didn't seem too high, which is surprising for a 4,000 capacity venue.
As much as I was excited to be shooting somewhere new, I was also looking forward to shooting CHVRCHES again. I'd caught them a few years ago on the main stage at Leeds Festival in the pouring rain, and on that occasion Lauren was surprisingly energetic. I was hoping for more of the same this time round.
The show was great fun to shoot - Lauren spent pretty much the entirety of the first three songs running from side to side interacting with the crowd, and the light made the technical side of shooting the show pretty straight forward. The guys were on top form, although photographing Iain and Martin was pretty tough given most of the light was focused on Lauren.
My first experience at Victoria Warehouse was a good one - I look forward to heading back soon to shoot some more shows there.
